You didn’t just buy a shirt. You secured a piece of limited-edition art—one of only 300 in existence.
At The Shirt Craft, we engineer our Pausewear to stand apart from the crowd. The secret to that distinct, head-turning finish lies in our fabric: 100% Premium Mercerized Cotton. Unlike regular cotton, which can look flat and fuzzy, our mercerized fabric is treated to ensure the fibers are round, smooth, and reflective. That is what gives your shirt its signature silk-like luster and deep, vibrant color.
But like any piece of art, it requires the right preservation.
We’ve designed our shirts to resist fading and shrinking for at least 25 washes, but with a little mindfulness (the core of the Pause philosophy), you can extend that lifespan indefinitely. Here is how to keep the shine alive.
1. The "Cold Water" Commandment
Heat is the enemy of shine. Hot water causes cotton fibers to swell and roughen, which kills the light-reflecting surface of the fabric.
-
The Fix: Always wash your Pausewear in cold water (below 30°C). It preserves the structural integrity of the mercerized yarn and keeps the surface smooth and glossy.
2. The Inside-Out Rule
Your washing machine is a chaotic place. Buttons, zippers from other clothes, and the drum itself can cause friction against the face of your shirt.
-
The Fix: Before you throw it in the wash, turn the shirt inside out. This ensures that the agitation happens on the inner fabric, protecting the outer "display" side from abrasion.
3. Shadow Drying is Non-Negotiable
We love the sun, but your shirt doesn't. Direct sunlight acts as a natural bleach, slowly breaking down the dye molecules and stripping away that rich, deep color we worked so hard to perfect.
-
The Fix: Dry your shirts in the shade. Let the air do the work. Avoid the tumble dryer if you can—the high heat and tumbling action can create microscopic fuzz that dulls the sheen over time.
4. Steam Over Steel
Ironing is effective, but it involves crushing the fibers under extreme heat and weight. Over time, this flattens the yarn and removes its natural bounce.
-
The Fix: Use a steamer whenever possible. Steam relaxes the wrinkles without compressing the fibers. If you must iron, do it while the shirt is slightly damp, use a medium heat setting, and—crucially—iron on the reverse side.
5. Be Gentle with Chemicals
Mercerized cotton is durable, but harsh chemicals can strip away its finish.
-
The Fix: Say no to bleach. Even "color-safe" bleach can be too aggressive for the premium finish of Pausewear. Stick to mild, liquid detergents that rinse out easily.
The Bottom Line
Fast fashion is designed to be worn and discarded. Pausewear is designed to be worn and cherished.
Taking a few extra minutes to wash your shirt mindfully isn't a chore—it’s part of the ritual. You own something exclusive. Treat it that way, and it will keep you shining for years to come.
